A GUIDE TO INDOOR PUBLIC TOILETS

Indoor self-cleaning public toilets: how to integrate them in sensitive contexts.

In many public spaces – from historic centres to cultural sites, from stations to urban transit areas – the recovery of pre-existing toilet facilities or their installation from scratch is a concrete need. Nevertheless, intervening on buildings or restricted environments presents with design challenges not always easy to solve.

SANO2 self-cleaning toilets series are designed to meet these particular challenges uniting innovation, personalisation and safety.

With this guide we want to provide references in the choice of indoor self-cleaning public toilets which are safe, efficient and accessible.

A GUIDE TO INDOOR PUBLIC TOILETS CONSTRUCTION

In which contexts can SANO2 indoor self-cleaning public toilets be installed?

Our indoor solutions are designed to adapt to a variety of different structures, both for spaces already designed to host public toilets, and for rooms designated for other purposes. In fact, in the cases where the spaces identified for the installation were not previously designed for this, it will be necessary to carry out water and sewerage connections: these kind of interventions can and will be evaluated and planned with the client from the initial stages of the project.

Our indoor self-cleaning public toilets are often required as a means to redevelop unused toilet facilities –  thus recovering spaces already designed for them – or to build new, accessible and technological public toilets inside public buildings. In sensitive areas, frequently bound by landscape, archaeological or architectural restrictions, indoor toilets are often the only compatible solution. This kind of public toilet, indeed, was specifically designed to integrate in its installation contexts without altering their characteristics.

How to choose among the SANO2 public toilets series to be integrated?

Choosing the most adequate public toilet and technology depends on various factors: design needs, spaces dimensions, expected usage frequency and required automation level.

Self-cleaning SANO2 indoor solutions are equipped with automatic sanitisation after each use. We offer three self-cleaning technologies progressively more automated.

  • S3 TECH: a smart and compact solution, with its integrated EASYTECH® cleaning system, which ensures toilet bowl cleaning and drying, high pressure floor cleaning, as well as sink cleaning, on customer request. Safety is provided by infrared sensors which detect users presence. S3 public toilets can be accessible for all users or just for able-bodied people; in any case, every model can be personalised.
  • S4 TECH: the evolution of S3 model, designed to offer a higher-level efficiency thanks to SLEDTECH® self-cleaning technology. The automatic doors can be sliding, with integrated anti-crushing system, or hinged. The access panel is equipped with a 7”, four languages display and all access parameters can be modified, even remotely. They are accessible for all users and configurations can be modified according to customers’ needs.
  • S5 TECH: this is the most evolved and versatile solution, also thanks to its self-supporting structure, which allows a faster installation due to the reduced volume of masonry works, limiting to the minimum both times of construction and impact of the interventions. After each use, the toilet bowl is sanitised and dried, while the floor is washed, sanitised and freed of any waste thanks to SCRUBBER®, a retractable roller brush. Users presence is detected by traction sensors embedded in the floor, compliant, certified and efficient at all times, even for small children.

SANO2 solutions can be implemented with our exclusive systems:

  • SANOSAFE®, for night-time, ozone-based disinfection, with no pollutants emission, which is standards for S5 models only, and
  • SANO2CONNECT®: it enables toilet remote management and predictive maintenance, and it is standard for S4 and S5 models.

Whatever may your need be, we are ready to suggest the best technologies and solutions for your project.

Which steps does the installation of an indoor self-cleaning public toilet include?

Every project starts with listening to the needs of our customer, who provides us with the floor plan of the premises the public toilet will be installed in, along with a description of their specific needs. Starting from these information, we design an optimal and targeted layout proposal. Once the preliminary layout gets approved and the offer is accepted, there is the feasibility study, which includes surveys and evaluations, and the process ends with the final layout validation. The following step is the executive planning: we elaborate all the technical drawings and describe in detail all the works to be carried out at the customer’s expense, including any demolitions and plant predispositions. Once the work is finished, we carry out a verification visit and proceed with the installation and testing of the public toilet.

A significant exception is made by public toilets in the S5 TECH version: in fact, being a self-supporting structure, it does not require the construction of “load-bearing partitions”, greatly simplifying the work and reducing time and installations costs.

Can a SANO2 indoor public toilet be customized?

Customisation and flexibility characterise not only our offer, but our entire approach: each SANO2 public toilet can be personalised according to the customer’s needs. These toilets, indeed, are designed to add elements as shower, urinal, technical rooms and other functional accessories upon request.

Materials, finishes and equipments can be customised as well: normally, the inner walls are made of white HPL – but coloured versions – or with special finishes are also available. Access can be automatic or manual, free or upon payment, even through digital systems. In any case, universal access is always granted: all versions comply with current regulations and they envisage spaces suitable for wheelchairs, handles, hand showers and, if required, changing tables.

Which are the advantages of an indoor self-cleaning public toilet?

In addition to the maximum hygiene granted by automatic disinfection technology, solutions to be integrated in indoor spaces offer significant architectural and functional advantages:

  • Enhancement of building heritage: by reusing indoor spaces, building façades and aesthetics are preserved, which is particularly important in historical or restricted contexts.
  • Less visual impact: no new volume is added. An “invisible” restroom , fully respecting the installation context.
  • Plant integration: it is easier connecting this kind of toilet to water and electric grids already present in the building.

How much does a SANO2 indoor self-cleaning toilet cost?

The cost of an indoor self-cleaning toilet depends on various factors, among which are the chosen typology, required equipment and personalisation level. In order to offer a practical reference to our clients, we always recommend a preliminary evaluation after a first meeting.

We personalise each estimate, taking into consideration your needs and we accompany you in the choice of the solution which best suits your context, granting you a complete service: from the first analysis to the toilet start-up.
